"goodmorning mam, sir"

earlier this morning, my senior resident and i bought our breakfast in a nearby chowking branch. as we entered the store, we were cheerfully greeted with, "goodmorning mam, sir". nothing unusual about it, i know.

but have you noticed everytime you enter a store, especially a fastfood joint, whether alone or with a group, the crew would greet you with "good_____ mam, sir". it was said with an intonation that i could not even begin to describe here. you have to hear it to appreciate it, i guess. and it was always like that and never just "good_______ maam" or "good______ sir". i wonder why?

maybe they're never sure if one is a real male or female so they use both to avoid problems. maybe that's how they were trained by their superiors. but it's kinda weird, though. i can't think of any other reasons.

or trip-trip lang talaga?

methinks they're trying to save up on the effort. customers normally do not look them in the eye. so when the guards mouth the greeting, they know it covers more than the latest ones he opened the door for.

pati greetings, fast food style.

ganun sila tinrain. lahat ng galaw nila eh by the book. ultimo ang pag greet sa customers. pero wag mo dibdibin kasi kumbaga robotic na yun greetings nila. eheh pwera na lang kung first day sa work, yun sinsero pa. :) i should know, i used to work sa jambee.

Ha ha! Funny because that was what a friend and I were talking about a week ago when we went to a fastfood resto here. My friend said she almost wants to believe that the doors won't open if they don't say it. But what I like to take note of is the intonation ... ibang klase especially "good afternoon" kasi nagiging "good afTERnoon" (accent on the second syllable). Nakakatuwa.

atticus: from the guard to the crew, they all greet the same way. natatawa na nga lang ako eh.

mundski: so kasama pala talaga sa training yon. ok ah! =)

bugsybee: sabi nga ni mundski, it's part of the training that's why pare pareho yung pagsabi nila.

silvermoon: it's summer in the philippines and everybody is heading for the beach...except me. =(
